But we will see if it helps, in the end. Vance has had to sell his soul to get that endorsement, and has made himself more vulnerable to Tim Ryan as a consequence.

Last spring I decided to return to school for a Master’s in History. It’s only my second semester, but I’m learning so much I had never known or fully understood, and wish I had known when I was younger. Nonetheless, I’m learning it now and so grateful to have been inspired by people like you and Heather Cox Richardson to get on this path. If I can grasp half as much as either of you and share it with others in a way that positively impacts our society then this change from being a “once-upon-a-time” USAF cryptolinguist, RN, then stay-at-home mom for 14 years, will have been well worth my time, money, and effort. In other words, thanks for writing and sharing what you know. I’m learning a lot.

Trump went with OZ because he always goes with his man crush. That will not be Vance. I was intrigued by Vance when his book, Hillbilly Elegy, came out in 2016. Given that I also have deep, personal knowledge of not only the Hillbilly culture of Appalachia, but also of the Deep South, I very much wanted to read his book and understand the man some were calling the Trump Whisperer. The book is riddled with contradictions and logical holes so large that even a hillbilly can spot them. Even so, I jumped at the chance to do a little more research. I went to see him speak at a Yale Law School event on Feb 2, 2017 hosted by The Yale Federalist Society, First Generation Professionals and the Yale National Security Group. He entered room 127 to a standing-room only crowd and proceeded first to kiss the ring of his mentor, Amy Chua (of Tiger Mother fame whose parenting nearly rivals the abuse suffered by Vance). He was uncharismatic and unconvincing as a speaker. The students in the crowd were more interested in the free food they were eating courtesy of the event planners.
