Too bad we didn’t see Bruce at the tiny Main Point! You may be just old enough to have gone. Anyhow, I saw him last week in Brooklyn, but didn’t sit that close! It was, I think, about my 9th Springsteen show. I agree with everything you said, and wanted to let you know Stevie has said he drew on being the main guy’s second in command to play Silvio as Tony’s second, and vice versa. Here is a link to a podcast with him and Josh Olson, my first boyfriend and the person I went to my first Springsteen concert with. Spent the summer between Baldwin and college cranking Thunder Road in my ‘71 Chevy Impala convertible. Anyhow…. In the interview, when Josh talks about a teenager he knows who imitates Steve doing Silvio doing that famous line from The Godfather, he’s talking about my son. https://trailersfromhell.com/podcast/steven-van-zandt/

Love the recounting. Thank you.

Except, of course, that he is a notorious anti-vaxxer, so it's hard to see how he gets traction as a Democrat with that.

I agree. In that photo in which he trusts himself to the adoring crowd, he shows what a great candidate he could be, like some kind of guy from Galilee walking on water.

Went to a Springsteen concert in Chapel Hill. At the end, we went down front for some reason. Walking across campus the next day, I heard a student yell out, "Hey, Dr. Hall, we heard you rushed the stage!" I treasure that brief moment of cool.

You have always been cool: the hallmark of that is that you do not know it!

Oh Hell Yes! Thanks, Claire. Did you see my Substack re: the Boss's "Nebraska" 40 Years After?

Hi, Claire - I've been reading your work for several years now, and always enjoy your writing and your perspective. I, too, am a Bruce fan (saw him for the first time behind the stage at the Arena in Pittsburgh when I was a grad student) and have to say that this is one of my favorite of all your posts. I was lucky to get a ticket to see him in Orlando in February, again, behind the stage. But there's no bad seats at a Bruce concert. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and conveyed that joy in this article. I agree Bruce would make a great President, if that's what he wanted to do. After seeing the concert here in Orlando, I gave a speech to my Toastmasters club titled "If I could live my life over again, I'd do everything the same , except I would pay more attention to Bruce Springsteen."

Really sounded like fun. Think you did a great job of capturing the energy.

Perhaps he could run with RFK who has declared in case you didn't know.

After reading a post from CHD I then saw there will be an official announcement in Boston coming up shortly. Exciting to see some people with independence stepping up.
