Painful gut punch, once again. As a Washingtonian, I saw Sam Ford's report when it aired, years ago. These chapters in our history -- those with Black and Indigenous ancestry -- don't get any easier to absorb, no matter how often I hear it. My Black family is descendant from the Chickahominy near the James River in Virginia. *sigh* Keep up the good work and thanks to Kevin Levin for mentioning your feed.

Thanks so much--I'm glad you liked it. I could not recommend Tiya Miles's scholarship more--it's beautifully written and utterly accessible to the general reader. And yes, I get it. Total gut punch. And that there are still real estate agents advertising "plantation houses" as if that is a good thing is horrifying. It's on a scale with the new Florida standards in African American history.

Whew! That's a whole 'nother ball of wax. I'm a native Washingtonian and went to New Orleans for undergrad at Newcomb/Tulane. When I tell you that the white host of a now-closed B&B there (New Orleans) looked me in the eye, stating I should avoid a certain area of town -- I was searching for a specific Black-owned store -- because of "them," (them being Black folx) I am not lying. I was a frequent guest, over multiple years, at her B&B. That shit stunned me to my core. It just doesn't get any easier. *smh* Maybe Dr. Miles' feed will help soothe my exhausted brain. I hope so.
