It doesn't matter. Speculating about whether political leaders are deranged gets us nowhere--the question is, why are they in power in the first place?
Claire, I have really appreciated your perspective in considering this war with the last couple of posts...the post on Anonymous and this Mad King post. While no one is able to really lift the fog of war, I do like the takes you have on what we do know. So thank you. I've "upped" my subscription to annual pay in hopes you will continue.
Not to mention the question of the unquestioning obedience of those thousands and thousands of people who actually pull the triggers and whose obedience is what "power' ultimately means.
Seems like typical American thinking; ie, never looking at the real dynamics of a situation and then resorting to psychological characterizations. Personally, I find Putin to be someone who has a great deal of discipline that he has used to try an avoid this confrontation for the past 8 yrs, at least.
